Brussels-based Brigitte Van Laethum has transformed her life-long passion for decorative painting into stunning large scale portraits and fresco.

Her experience with restoration gained in holy places across the Middle-East, is apparent in her works that express the eeriness of century old masterpieces. The subjects seem to want to escape from the canvass to express their « sehnsucht », their thoughts and emotions with all aspects of their life, incomplete and imperfect, and, at the same time their longing for ideal alternative experiences…

Her works drag the viewer into a timeless world of hope, sorrow, despair, love and ultimately, life itself.
